The computing world is volatile and changes constantly: new Javascript frameworks seemingly daily, new projects from Microsoft, IBM i operating system and language improvements, changing mobile platform rules and regulations … the list goes on. Knowing which technologies and projects will stick, staying informed, and constantly updating one’s skills is key to staying relevant.

It’s fast, it’s fun, and I’m glad to be in the thick of it.

I’m Michael Lopez, an independent full-stack developer and computer consultant located in New York, and owner of Emmerel Software Systems, Inc.

I work on the Microsoft platform, IBM i (AS/400) platform, and the Xamarin mobile platform. I specialize in integrating these platforms.

Whether it’s database design, web apps, desktop apps, 5250 workstation apps, mobile apps, or backend services unifying it all, I’ve probably done it.

I’ve designed and programmed many systems, mainly for the business industry. Along the way I’ve learned a lot of best practices and have witnessed a lot of bad practices.

I’ll be posting on this site things that I find to be helpful and interesting, and also things that should be steered away from.
